Mazda Will Feature New Fuel Efficient Engine for 2019

Mazda is currently in the process of designing and testing a new engine that will benefit drivers world wide with more fuel efficiency throughout their daily commute. The new technology is known as the Spark Controlled Compression Ignition, and it will be classified as the SkyActiv-X engine. What is this technology you ask? Well it isn’t hybrid based, but this system resembles that of a diesel combustion engine.

Today's gasoline engines utilize spark plugs for the air and fuel mixture for ignition. The new technology that Mazda is designing will deliver a spark-free ignition and replace it with a compression system that reduces the loss of heat and energy in today's modern gasoline engine. Similar to how a diesel engine functions with compression, this new technology for gasoline based engines is a process designed to increase fuel efficiency. The SkyActiv-X engine is projected to utilize 20 to 30 percent less fuel while producing up to 30 percent more torque than current SkyActiv engines. This isn’t to say that there will not be any movement toward electric based hybrid vehicles for Mazda in the future. However, 2019 is looking good for the fuel conscious Mazda drivers in Reading, PA.
